County Sligo Vec promotes its schools and colleges as Learning and Cultural Centres of Excellence. They are managed by Boards of Management which are Sub-Committees of County Sligo Vec. They are supported by head Office Staff in Quay Street. Their individual and collective ethos is underpinned by County Sligo Vec Mission Statement and Strategic Education Plan. All buildings are furnished to the highest standards. Equipment and IT resources are also of the highest quality. Progress in teaching and learning is monitored , evaluated and developed through a variety of appropriate networks of excellence co-ordinated by the Chief Executive Officer and the Education officer and overseen by the Education Board. Personal and Professional Development is encouraged through a variety of programmes of in-service and seminars responsive to the needs of teaching staff and learners.

For the academic year 2009/2010 the schools and colleges will focus on the following three initiatives:

County Sligo Vec schools and colleges provide a wide range of extra curricular activities in both the sport and cultural fields. Calendar events for the County include:

  • Fashion Show

  1. Ballinode college
  2. Principal: Mr. Joe Carolan

    School profile:

    Sligo Technical School was first established in 1904, moved to Quay Street in 1907, and to Ballinode in 1971, changing its name to Ballinode College in 1996.

    Ballinode is situated on the North side of Sligo town, an area where there has been a huge increase in population in the last ten years due to new housing developments. The catchment area for students at second level is Sligo Town and surrounding area, up to a radius of about six miles.

    Curriculum:

    At junior cycle the college offers the Junior Certificate Programme. At senior cycle the college offers the Leaving Certificate at higher and ordinary level and also The Leaving Certificate Applied Programme and the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme.

  3. Colaiste Iascaigh

    School profile:

    Colaiste Iascaigh is located in a rural area on the North West Coast between the towns of Sligo and Ballina. It is on the edge of Easkey village and the majority of students attending the school travel to the school by bus from the surrounding areas. The school was opened by County Sligo V.E.C. in 1948. The latest additions to the curriculum are LCVP and LCAP.

    Curriculum:

    The college offers Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate Programmes at higher and ordinary level and also the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme and the Leaving Certificate Applied programme. All subjects are taught at both Higher and Ordinary levels.

  5. Coola Post Primary School
  6. Principal: Mr. Damien McGoldrick

    School profile:

    County Sligo V.E.C. bought a two-acre site in 1949. The school was completed in 1954.

    Curriculum:

    The college offers Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate Programmes at higher and ordinary level and also the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme and the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme. The college also offers a Transition Year Programme.All subjects are taught at both Higher and Ordinary levels.

    School profile:

    The college is located some twelve miles south of Sligo and was established in 1934.

    Curriculum:

  9. Grange Post Primary School

    School profile:

    Grange Post Primary School was established in 1934. It is a co-educational post-primary school . It is the only second level school in North Sligo.

    The school offers a comprehensive range of subjects, both academic and practical, and all are catered for at both Higher and Ordinary Level.

    The school catchment area extends from Bunduff Bridge on the Leitrim border in the north to Drumcliffe Bridge in the south. It is bordered to the east by the Benbulben Mountain range and to the west by the Atlantic.

    The school offers Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate Programmes including Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme. All subjects are taught at both Higher and Ordinary levels.

  11. North Connacht College, Tubbercurry
  12. Principal: Ms. Mary Madden

    School profile:

    In the early 1990's the school changed over to a College of Adult and Further Education. It also did a number of repeat Leaving Certificate subjects. It became a VTOS center and an ECDL centre.
