Where do classes take place?

ALEC operates from Sligo Town, Tubbercurry, Ballymote, Enniscrone and Easkey and many courses can be offered on an outreach basis in partnership with the local Community, Voluntary and Statutory agencies.

How do learners make contact and find the right course?

Learners can contact the centre directly but are sometimes referred from Adult Guidance, VEC Adult Education courses such as BTEI, Community Education, VTOS and Youthreach and other Agencies. The Adult Literacy Organiser meets the learner and assesses what help they might need to improve their skills in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Maths, Computers or Family Learning courses.

Learners can be placed in a one to one for ten weeks and then can move on to a small group for a minimum of two hours per week. Classes are provided during day and evening and are free of charge. Classes are based around the interest and needs of the learner.

We hope that you enjoy beginning your learning journey with us. We particularly welcome those who never went to school, who left school early and those who have not been in education for a long time- It’s never too late to learn……..
