Deaf Awareness & Irish Sign Language (ISL) Training
Post date: 15-Aug-2011Sligo VEC is currently involved in a cross border project aimed at increasing both Deaf Awareness and
Irish Sign Language (ISL). As part of this we are running FETAC courses in ISL and a series of Deaf Awareness half day training courses. The Deaf Awareness courses will cover the following areas:
- Basic Sign language Skills
- What it’s like to be deaf in a hearing world
- Understanding different types of deafness
- How to make your service accessible to Deaf and hard of hearing people

- William Butler Yeats was born in Dublin in 1865, but spent most of his childhood in County Sligo. He is one of Ireland's best-known poets. In December 1923, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. He is buried in Drumcliffe, Co Sligo
- Truskmore Mountain is the highest peak in Co Sligo.Truskmore lies between Sligo and Leitrim and is 2,113 feet high. It can be found in the Dartry Mountains area and is the 201st highest mountain in Ireland.
